Green Beans and Radishes (Pics Forthcoming (sp?))
I went to Lowe's to find some seeds. Aside from one daisy, I haven't tried to grow anything from a seed. Everything has been picked up at Lowe's or Home Depot or Walmart. Well, I couldn't find any seeds and I located staff to find out why. The girl told me that Lowe's felt it was too late in the season to try to grow anything from a seed so they stopped selling them. She suggested I go to Kmart down the road. So I went to Kmart and bought a pack of radish seeds and green bean seeds. Luckily, they were 40% off because I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I planted them today.
According to the package, the radishes should be harvest ready in 22 days. Yeah right!!! Not in my back yard, they won't.... The corn is coming along good and the eggplant has 2 very pretty lavender flowers. Anxious to see how that is going to turn out. And I'm not sure how the squash is doing. Lots of big green leaves but not much else. There was one yellow flower (my profile pic) that bloomed but it fell off.
Oh! There are also some trolls in the garden! Quite cute. Haven't taken any pics of them yet. Maybe tomorrow if I get up early enough.
Anyway, that's it for now.

Peter Squash Corn and I Don't Care......
This is Peter. He is my gardening buddy. I was watering my plants one day after work and he appeared in my backyard. I don't know if he's a stray or not but he has made himself quite comfortable on the premises. I am sure that me and Jen occasionally feeding him and bringing him a bowl of ice cold water has nothing to do with it. I have made it clear to Peter that we already own 3 cats and have no room for another any time soon. BTW, I named him Peter because after meeting me for the first time he commenced to sit on my top steps and lick his 'peter' for what had to be 3 minutes long. Anyway, back to the garden updates:
This is my first time growing squash (left). It's pretty cool looking. So leafy and green. Me likes....
And the eggplant seems to be coming along well, too (below)

As for the corn: So far. So good. The corn's still growing. I find myself comparing it to corn I see in fields I pass on the way home from work and I guess I can say I'm still holding my own. Sometimes the corn starts to tilt and I have to push dirt around it to stand it up straight or I've also been turning the pots around in case it's a sunlight issue.

What was I thinking??? Strawberries from QVC?

Not quite sure why I did it. Guess I was bored. And maybe I had a few ..... but I bought these strawberry pouches from QVC about a month or so ago. The chick selling them was sooo convincing. I got 2 pouches, a bag of potting soil, and a bunch of strawberry root like things for 40 bucks. So far nothing is really happening except that today I saw my first flower. oh joy.......

Maize

These were repotted last week and grew quite a bit...

Corn plant #5. Repotted Sunday, June 1st

Corn plant #6. Also planted Sunday, June 1st

Yeah, and this is why I have to garden off my back steps. There's no grass in the backyard. It's all ivy and bushes and looks like a friggin jungle. I guess the landlord doesn't want to mess around with mowing:

Altogether I have 7 corn plants. Due to limited space, I've got 2 containers with 2 plants each in them which I anticipate to get really crowded and on Sunday I just planted 2 more plants,( which you see here) each in their very own 12 inch container. There is 1 plant on standby just in case one dies off. I've only killed one plant so far which was during the repotting process. I'm a little bit worried that I've repotted the plants too many times and somehow damaged their root system. We'll see.....
I'm psyched about everything I'm growing but I am super psyched about the corn. I'm scared thinking about what the plants will turn into and what kind of bugs they'll bring. I'll deal with that as time passes, I guess.
I'm also concerned about the lack of full sun. This big ass tree keeps it kinda shady in the backyard :
